“Being bold means not being afraid to take action on your ideas. we all have a lot of ideas…it’s saying let’s take action. It means taking a chance, you don’t know whether it’s going to succeed or not. But knowing you’ve taken the first step, you’ve already succeeded.” ~ Ming Ming Tung-Edelman

Ming Ming (MiMi) is the founder of MiMi Globe Goods, a non-profit that helps stay-at-home immigrants by empowering them with skills and equipment to design, create and market hand-crafted jewelry and accessories.
I sat down with MiMi in her home in North Seattle to chat about her business, her background as an immigrant, her career as a pharmacist and what ultimately led her to creating a business that currently helps a handful of immigrant women in Seattle who are from Bhutan. But her business model has the potential to help immigrants from many regions and to spread much farther than just the Seattle area.
MiMi’s story is so interesting to me not only because of the company she has created but because of her background. She’s an immigrant herself, originally from Taiwan, and made her way to the U.S. by way of Saudi Arabia. In the U.S., she went to university and became a pharmacist. It’s easy to see how the hardships and transitions that she must have gone through would later influence her to help immigrants.
Having volunteered for non-profits myself for nearly 30 years and now running my own non-profit (the WanderWorld Foundation), I found MiMi’s work really refreshing because, not only is the idea pretty simple, but it has the potential of being quite large and improving the lives of many immigrants.
The message here is simple. Combine what you love with helping others and you may find an opportunity that’s beyond your imagination.
