Today’s episode is a little different.
Since running my Boston qualifying marathon on July 4th, I’ve been asked about the experience by many people. Specifically, friends and colleagues have been curious about how I stay motivated to run and how I managed to complete my goal of running a marathon under four hours.
Those are valid questions. But to answer them properly, I felt like people needed to hear the backstory of how I got into running.
In this episode, I talk about how I started running only in my mid-forties, how I stopped for a bit and then got back into it by creating bigger goals (specifically to run a marathon). I also talk about the head games of self doubt that happen, particularly when you’re pushing yourself, and how I talked myself into keep on running during the race even when I wanted to walk.
If you like this format and want to know more, I’ll be recording Ask Me Anything episodes in the future. Feel free to leave a comment below or contact me with questions you’d like answered.
