“Be Bold means no fear. It means have courage. It means do the things that you want to do in the world, ’cause you only get one shot..” ~ Ashley Fullenwider
My guest today is Ashley Fullenwider.
I was introduced to Ashley by a mutual friend of ours and initially only knew her as the co-founder of Nuu-Muu, the makers of exercise apparel for women.
What I discovered is that once you start to pull back the covers, there are layers not only to Nuu-Muu but also to Ashley. If you know what a mumu is (you know, those blousey dresses), you can imagine a Nuu-Muu. It’s a much more stylish version of a dress for women of all sizes. While Nuu-Muu was started to satisfy the founders’ desire to wear something stylish while exercising, the dresses are appropriate for everyday-wear and, more importantly to me, travel.
So, that’s Nuu-Muu.
Now Ashley. When I started researching about Ashley prior to recording this episode, I found out there’s much more to her world than being a co-founder of Nuu-Muu. What consumes much of her time is her job at Argonne National Laboratories where she’s a political scientist and linguist and travels extensively to work against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Pretty crazy, huh?
On the side, she’s a National Collegiate Champion of Ultimate Frisbee and is on the Board of Bellingham Youth Ultimate where she gets to coach young people in Ultimate Frisbee.
In this episode, we talk about how she not only manages to juggle these very different aspects of her world but thrive in these environments. These worlds that, on one hand, includes a very stressful job with a lot on the line with one that is far more creative. But to Ashley, these are both are equally important.
I think what’s so important about this conversation is that most women ARE juggling many different aspects of their lives. Some do it better than others and I’d have to say that by all appearances Ashley’s doing it pretty well. She seems quite grounded given all that she has on her plate and I think she’s pretty amazing for that alone.
By the way, she also shares her secret to getting over jet lag which, given all the travel she does, must be part of her secret sauce to success.
Enjoy this conversation with Ashley Fullenwider!
